St. Luke's Heart Institute in QC turns 26

MANILA, Philippines - The St. Luke’s Heart Institute in Quezon City marks 26 years of excellent heart health care this month with various activities for doctors, medical students and patients alike.

Being the Philippines’ first private heart center of excellence, the St. Luke’s Heart Institute-Quezon City houses some of the country’s best cardiologists and surgeons.

To date, it maintains a 99 percent success rate in open heart surgeries, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgeries, and coronary angioplasty and stenting which is comparable to success rates of some of the best medical centers in the world.

Last February, the Heart Institute performed the country’s first transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) operation.

To date, it has made Philippine medical history with a 100 percent success rate for its first nine TAVR patients.

Among the anniversary highlight’s include a scientific symposium at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel entitled “Multi-Specialty Concerns in the Management and Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease” which tackles stroke prevention and management, cardiovascular effects on chemotherapy, cardiovascular concerns in surgery, and other topics.

An annual golf tournament called Golf for a Cause 2012: H.B. Calleja Cup was held at Tagaytay Midlands for the benefit of indigent heart patients. The celebration also included a lively Fellowship Night among cardiologists.

In line with the month-long celebration and to encourage heart health awareness, the Heart Institute of St. Luke’s Medical Center-Quezon City offers a special anniversary rate on its most common ancillary services until Sept. 14.  

Cardiac procedures and packages which patients can avail themselves of at this special price include the Coronary Angiogram Package, ECG, Holter Test, Treadmill Stress Test, Arterial/Venous Duplex Scan, Carotid/Vertebral Duplex Scan, Duplex Scan of Peripheral Arterial System, Duplex Scan of Peripheral Venous System, and 2D Echo with Doppler Study.

Patients may avail themselves of or schedule their tests and procedures beyond September, provided that payment is made until Sept. 14.
