MANILA, Philippines - Chevron Kalinga Ltd. (CKL) and partners Aragon Power and Energy Corp. (APEC) and Guidance Management Corp. (GMC) recently participated in Kalinga’s annual Ullalim Festival. This marks the company’s second straight year of supporting one of the province’s biggest celebrations.
During the festival, Chevron officials interacted with Kalinga residents and showcased their various community development projects and initiatives along with their infrastructure project partners, Kalinga-Apayao State College (KASC) and Oarblade Inc.
Chevron, KASC and Oarblade have introduced advanced building materials technology and training to harness the skills of Kalinga’s indigenous people in implementing their various community projects.
As part of their upcoming geothermal exploration activities, Chevron professionals also explained the benefits of geothermal energy and distributed copies of the local language version of the exploration project’s comic book and other information and education materials to the locals.
This year, the festival adopted the theme “Kalinga Shines” to promote the idea of boasting the local festivals of the province’s lone city and seven municipalities.
The term “ullalim” literally means a tale, saga or story usually chanted in special occasions.
The Ullalim Festival was first held on Feb. 14, 1995 to commemorate the first founding anniversary of Kalinga. Since then, it has become a yearly celebration with various fun activities.
The festival also serves as a tourism promotion which highlights the rich cultural heritage of the province.
