An 'egg-ducational' piece of information

-

MANILA, Philippines - Talk abounds as to the benefits of eggs to humans’ overall health and well-being, especially when preventing certain ailments like cancer.

A local egg farm, Bounty Farms Inc., believes that eggs do help prevent cancer, especially if it’s packed with a mineral called “selenium.”

With the health of the public in mind, the company introduced its line of Bounty Fresh Specialty Eggs with Organic Selenium.

Since organic selenium is already present in chicken eggs but in minimal amounts, Bounty Farms increased the level of organic selenium by adjusting the diet of layer chickens using US Food and Drug Administration, European Union, Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority-approved commercial feeds with organic selenium yeast, which is transported to the egg and concentrated mainly on the egg yolk.

According to the website www.healthsupplementsnutritionalguide.com, selenium “is an essential trace mineral that is widely regarded in scientific communities as a potentially powerful antioxidant… and may protect against cardiovascular disease and certain forms of cancer.”

One of the most potent immune system boosters and antioxidants, selenium is recommended as an important preventive measure for general health and well-being.

The body tissues store and hold it in reserve in times of stress or during times when free radicals suppress the body’s immune system and reduce its ability to detect defective cells before they develop into tumors.

Its protective and preservative characteristics are essential since excessive exposure to pollution (smoke from vehicles, cigarettes) and even solar rays trigger the production of excessive free radicals in the body.

This explains why Bounty Farms is pushing for more egg consumption among Filipinos because of its health benefits, particularly their specialty eggs with organic selenium. One large egg contains approximately 30 micrograms.

The National Institutes of Health MedlinePlus cited that the recommended daily intake of selenium for children is 20 to 40 micrograms and for adults, 55 micrograms.

Given these, women may find Bounty Fresh’s organic selenium eggs beneficial to them since increased levels of selenium in the blood reduce the risk of breast cancer because it decreases the production of mammary tumors.

Aside from selenium, other nutrients found in eggs are protein, calcium, phosphorus, carbohydrates, amino acids, fats, potassium, iron and vitamins B12 and E.

It is a good thing that Bounty Farms was able to bring the technology of producing selenium-enriched eggs to the country to benefit not just women but all Filipinos trying to live a healthy life. Plus, with Bounty Farms’ plants certified with good manufacturing practices and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, Filipino consumers are given assurance that the Bounty Fresh Specialty Eggs they get from the shelves and bring to their homes are only the newest and freshest products from Bounty and produced under stringent production and quality control standards.

Bounty Fresh Specialty Eggs with Organic Selenium come in packs of 10 per tray and are available in leading supermarkets and groceries nationwide.
