GE gas turbine offers cleaner power
MANILA, Philippines - The world’s most efficient, simple-cycle aeroderivative gas turbine, GE’s LMS100, is now being offered with new dry low emissions technology, further positioning GE as a world leader in this power generation segment.
The LMS100, introduced in 2003, is the most extensive collaboration of design and manufacturing in GE’s history.
It is able to reach full power from a cold start within 10 minutes, and has 46 percent efficiency in simple cycle operation — 54 percent in combined cycle.
The LMS100 offers characteristics not available in other 8- to 16-megawatt class gas turbines today, including high part-power efficiency, cycling capability without increased maintenance cost, and a modular design for ease of maintenance and high availability, among others.
“Many in the Philippines know about GE’s high performance jet engines found in almost all of Philippine Airlines’ and Cebu Pacific’s fleet. It is from this aircraft engine technology bench that we have developed high-performance gas turbines in a class that provides flexibility to a wide range of utilities and industries, and a good fit for a number of power generation requirements here in our country,” said John Alcordo, GE Energy country executive for the Philippines and Guam.
Its benefits to consumers would be cost avoidance of higher peak power grid charges, which translate to lower kilowatt-hour expenses paid by end-users.
