MANILA, Philippines - The University of Santo Tomas Department of Ophthalmology will hold its 29th annual postgraduate course with this year’s theme “Refractive Surgery: Looking Beyond LASIK, New Treatment Options” at the Benavides Cancer Institute auditorium at UST Hospital on March 11-12.

To coincide with UST’s 400th year, the UST Department of Ophthalmology marks this special event with world-renowned refractive surgeon and ophthalmologist Dr. Francesco Carones from Milan, Italy as its featured speaker.

Carones, also a book author, will share with Philippine eye doctors the latest in and the future of refractive surgery.

The course is aimed at comprehensive ophthalmologists who are thinking of integrating refractive surgery or premium intraocular lenses in their individual practice in this new and evolving subspecialty in ophthalmology.

Dr. Noel Castillo, director of this year’s postgraduate course, said there are several breakthroughs that will be discussed in the event that will advance the knowledge of any ophthalmologist.

Carones and the other invited speakers will lecture on the different concerns confronting today’s eye doctors, particularly in giving the best results to the different demands of refractive surgery patients.
