CFL lab set up at UP

-

MANILA, Philippines - In support of the government’s thrust of ensuring that only quality and energy efficient lighting products are to be put in the market, the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines (IIEE) Foundation has set up a Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) laboratory in the National Engineering Center (NEC) at the University of Philippines (UP) Diliman campus.

At present, the laboratory is the largest and first fully automated CFL laboratory in the Philippines. It is equipped with two 75KVA automatic voltage regulators (AVRs) to regulate the test voltage of 230 V±2%, eight temperature sensors to monitor the room temperature, two humidity sensors to monitor the inside and outside humidity; and four industrial exhaust fans to control the room temperature to the 15 °C  - 40 °C range.

The laboratory is utilizing Insight Technology, an advanced automation software which controls all the equipment and performs all the necessary test procedures with the use of a computer.

As an automated laboratory, the incidence of non-conformities and/or human error has been minimized, if not eliminated.

The IIEE Foundation CFL Testing Laboratory (ICTL) is duly recognized by the Department of Energy and Department of Trade and Industry’s Bureau of Products Standards in the conduct of performance testing (Yellow Label) of CFLs.
