Asian Hospital fosters breast cancer awareness

MANILA, Philippines - In its continuous efforts to educate women on breast diseases, the Asian Hospital and Medical Center, in cooperation with Project Pink Support Group, celebrate October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a series of activities lined up to raise public awareness on the alarming disease.

Last Oct. 17, Asian Hospital had a Free Breast Clinic at the emergency room, aiming to instill in women the importance of early detection in the prevention and treatment of breast diseases and provide them with basic information about the causes, reasons and outcome of some of the common breast problems that bother most women today, such as breast lumps, breast discharge and breast pain.

On Oct. 24, a more comprehensive discussion on breast diseases, particularly breast cancer, is slated at the annual “Keeping aBreast Breast Cancer Lay Forum,” from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, at the Conference Facility Units 1 and 2 of the Asian Hospital.

Now on its fifth year, “Keeping aBreast” has become a reliable source of valuable knowledge and updated information on breast diseases for women. This year, the free lay forum will focus on the theme “I Have Cancer, Now What?” which will address issues and concerns of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The lay forum will feature medical experts from Asian Hospital, who will zero in on important topics to help women with breast cancer cope with the disease. Participants will know what to expect during chemotherapy, the value of exercise in coping with breast cancer, the basics of breast reconstruction, wigs, and prosthetics, and the importance of adopting a positive attitude in the midst of the disease.

Participants with the brochure also get a free breast consultation this month from any of the Breast Team doctors of Asian Hospital.

Admission to the lay forum is free. For more information, call the Marketing Department of Asian Hospital at 771-9000 to 02 local 8066 or 8073, e-mail at marketing@asianhospital.com or log on to www.asianhospital.com.
