Health industry alarmed over rising allergy cases

-

To help curb the rising incidence of allergic disorders in the country, Allerta, the leading anti-allergy medication from Unilab, joined medical professionals and health industry leaders in a recent allergy conference.

The Philippine Society of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (PSAAI) organized the country’s first Allergy Fair, which occurred simultaneously in Cebu, Iloilo, Davao, Batangas, Baguio, and Pampanga.

PSAAI president Dr. Florecita Padua welcomed the health industry’s unprecedented support in realizing their organization’s goal.

“The number of allergy-related diseases has increased in magnitude over the years,” Padua said. “The health industry’s cognizance of this ensures that we will be able to better educate the public on allergy detection, control and treatment.”

At the symposia, Padua herself revealed that the most prevalent allergy among children today is from food such as chicken, cow’s milk, egg, and seafood.

It has also been discovered that older children and adults, on the other hand, are more exposed to allergens from the environment. Even the rate of asthma incidence has significantly increased in the past few years.

Other resource speakers in the forum reiterated that solid knowledge and understanding of the nature of allergies and allergens will definitely be crucial in suppressing attacks.

Taking antihistamines, such as Allerta, is one key step in overcoming conditions caused by allergy. Manufactured by Unilab, Allerta offers fast, long-lasting allergy relief without inducing drowsiness.

Rallying behind the campaign on allergy awareness were the Philippine College of Chest Physicians; Philippine Academy of Pediatric Immunologists; Philippine Society of Ortholaryncology, Head and Neck Surgery; Philippine Academy of Ophthalmology; and the Philippine Dermatological Society.

Representatives of these associations each revealed beneficial information on the detection and management of allergic disorders.

While expressing gratitude for the health industry’s support, the PSAAI also reaffirmed its commitment to protect Filipinos with increased awareness of the causes and treatment options for this once misunderstood and underestimated disease.
