Unilab develops ZincPlus technology for children’s vitamins

-
Scientists at United Laboratories Inc., the country’s largest and leading pharmaceutical and healthcare company, have introduced ZincPlus technology, the latest research and development (R&D) breakthrough for children’s vitamins formulated to boost children’s resistance against sickness, Unilab president and chief executive officer Carlos Ejercito announced recently.

"The development of ZincPlus demonstrates Filipino scientists’ ingenuity in scientific research relative to the world’s best," Ejercito said. "This affirms Unilab’s commitment to find more ways to better address the healthcare needs of Filipinos, especially children."

Prior to the ZincPlus technology, vitamin C and zinc could not be successfully combined in liquid products because vitamin C degrades rapidly in the presence of zinc. As a result, children are not able to get adequate amount of both vitamin C and zinc in products not using ZincPlus.

Developed by PediaTech, the R&D arm of Unilab, ZincPlus is a technology that allows a stable combination of vitamin C and zinc in liquid preparations, assuring children of the correct daily dosage of vitamin C and zinc.

This technology is now used in Zeeplus Syrup marketed by Pediatrica, Unilab’s pediatric division. Patent applications for ZincPlus technology have been filed in the United States, Southeast Asia, and other countries.

PediaTech, which is dedicated to developing innovative solutions in childcare, is headed by Dr. Kennie Dee, Unilab senior vice president.

Launched in 2001, PediaTech is committed to making a difference in the lives of parents and children by developing breakthrough technologies that better satisfy patients’ needs.
