Oil-free air tech becomes a reality
October 12, 2006 | 12:00am
Finally, from what seemed to be an impossibility, oil-free technology is now being offered by the leading manufacturer in air compression technology.
Once again proving its leadership in the field, Atlas Copco, Inc. was awarded the ISO 8537-1 CLASS O certification in Belgium last June.
"We are very pleased to offer customers a compressed air solution which eliminates risk of contamination by oil," said Luc Hendrickx, president of Atlas Copcos Oil-free Air Division.
"It just proves that our oil-free compressors are the right choice not only in terms of lowering operating costs, but more importantly in managing risks when it comes to sensitive industries that utilize air compression technology," Hendrickx said.
In industries ranging from electronics manufacturing, pharmaceuticals to food and beverage processing, air purity has become an essential.
Safeguarding public interest and high health standards, the 1991 standards were then revised in 2001, establishing more comprehensive methods to determine air contamination.
One factor taken into consideration was how temperature was able to taint air systems. The tests conducted on Atlas Copcos oil-free air compression technology considered this and was carried out at three different temperature points.
The round of tests was conducted by Technichse ÜberwachungsVerein (TUV), a respected and world-renowned independent, international organization specializing in the safety and quality of technology. Applying the most stringent test methods, the TUV announced that Atlas Copco passed the tests with flying colors.
The ISO 8573-1 CLASS O certification the latest and most stringent class in air purity was awarded to Atlas Copco, making it the first manufacturing company to gain such an official recognition in the world.
"It is a big step," said Jonnie Regis, general manager of Atlas Copco Philippines. "Even trace qualities of oil can result in damages and high rejection in production. With our oil-free air compression technology, all causes for risks and concern are minimized if not eliminated."
Over the past six decades, Atlas Copco, Inc. pioneered the development of oil-free air technology.
