Melatonin-T cited

-
Melatonin-T, locally distributed by Trianon International Inc., received the Philippine Marketing Excellence Award as the Most Outstanding Sleeping Supplement recently.

Melatonin-T was cited for its outstanding marketing performance leading toward marketing dominance, goodwill, high-level customer confidence and market acceptability.

The Philippine marketing excellence awards are conferred annually by the Philippine Marketing Excellence Awards Institute Inc., Asian Institute of Marketing and Entrepreneurship and the Sales and Marketing magazine.

Awardees are voted by consumers and marketing professionals for "best marketing practices" through a combination of surveys, focus-group discussions and market research.

Melatonin has been shown by studies to help promote good quality sleep, relieve jetlag, boost the immune system, and delay the onset of degenerative diseases such as cataract, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinsonism, arthritis, cancer and heart diseases.

Melatonin experts believe it may also help enhance sexual function.

Melatonin-T, which has been available in the local market for nine years now, has gained raves in the United States for its efficacy both as a potent antioxidant nutritional supplement and as a non-habit forming sleep-enhancing pill. It does not have the hangover of a regular sleeping pill.

The local Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) has registered it as a food supplement.

Like most animals, human beings produce melatonin abundantly during early life. But melatonin levels in our blood wane slightly during or after puberty and spiral down gradually as we age, said Dr. Walter Pierpaoli, an Italian immunologist.

In one of his experiments, he gave the melatonin hormone to rodents and restored their youthful levels. They outlived their life expectancies by nearly a third.

Many believe that melatonin may also have an anti-aging and life-prolonging effect in humans.

Pierpaoli and Dr. William Regeson in their book The Melatonin Miracle, said, "Melatonin can stop the downward spiral that we have come to associate with aging."

One’s melatonin level is at its peak at age six. The first sharp decline is after puberty when one is about 16 years old.

Adults at age 45 secrete only half as much as children. When one becomes 80, melatonin production comes in trickles, which explains why we seem to sleep less as we grow older.

According to aging experts, many think this is normal or physiological. But low levels of melatonin may very well explain why the elderly have increased number of pains and degenerative illnesses.

The Philippine distributor of Melatonin-T, Trianon International, endorses it as "an aid to sleep problems, making one enjoy deep, restful sleep and waking up the next day feeling relaxed."

Trianon Melatonin-T is classified as an over-the-counter food supplement, and is available in Mercury and Watson Drug stores nationwide.

Francis Melegrito, Trianon marketing director, said the company welcomes provincial distributors for Melatonin-T and other Trianon products. Interested parties may call 815-3239, 892-0723, 892-0724 or 894-0843; fax at 892-8514, or e-mail [email protected].
