Engineering geology lectures at MIT set

-
A lecture series on the latest technology and concept in engineering and geology is being offered by the Mapua Institute of Technology (MIT), through its School of Graduate Studies and School of Earth and Materials Science and Engineering.

Scheduled on April 1-12, the seminar is being held in cooperation with the International Institute of Aerospace Survey and Earth Science of the Netherlands (ITC) within the framework of an international Joint Education Program (JEP).

Dr. Robert Hack, professor of engineering geology at ITC, will conduct the lecture series, which will be divided into two modules.

Module 1, to be held on April 1-5, covers the following topics: Intact Rock, Methods and Influence of Excavation, Rock Masses and Discontinues.

Topics under Module 2, on April 8-12, are: The Behavior of Seismic Waves in Discontinuous Rock Masses, Principle of Tunnel and Slope Design in Discontinuous Rock Masses, Principles of Dams Design, Interaction between Discontinuous Rock Masses and Engineering Structures, and Case Histories.

The subjects are offered as credit units for MIT graduate students and as certificate training courses for non-MIT graduate students.

The lectures will be held at the Mapua Information Technology Center (old RCBC Plaza), 333 Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, Makati City.

Enrollment fee for each module is P5,000. For details, contact the MIT School of Graduate Studies, 527-3681, or the School of Earth and Materials Science and Engineering, 301-0096, or visit the MIT website at www.mapua-tech.edu.ph.
