SHDA convention seeks solutions to housing backlog
MANILA, Philippines - In line with recent call for reforms in housing, such as affordability, the issue of informal settlers, and policies governing the industry, the country’s largest housing development group will tackle these and more in its forthcoming annual convention.
The Subdivision and Housing Developers Association Inc. (SHDA) will host the 22nd National Developers’ Convention and General Membership Meeting with the theme “Groundwork: Shaping a Sustainable Housing Industry†on Sept. 26-27 at the Fairmont Makati.
The event will be highlighted by the release of SHDA’s much anticipated Housing Industry Roadmap: Year 1 Report. The association presented a comprehensive plan last year to address the country’s housing backlog. Without intervention, this backlog is expected to rise to over 6.4 million units by 2030. But through the full support of government and other institutions, the SHDA roadmap details how the industry can eliminate the backlog by then.
“Developers are quite satisfied with the growth of our industry and there is reason to be optimistic in 2013. SHDA remains on target with our commitments,†said SHDA president Paul Tanchi.
The developers’ convention will also focus on long running housing concerns with the aim of producing reports and resolutions on streamlining the housing permit process, increasing access to affordable housing, and exploring options in end-user financing.
Industry players and leaders including representatives from the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council, Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board, Home Development Mutual Fund, Board of Investments and the Land Registration Authority will serve as resource persons and panelists at the event.
Housing developers and real estate professionals, including non-members of SHDA, are expected to attend the convention. SHDA is the largest organization of housing developers in the country, with over 200 members from chapters across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
