Montecito: Integrating nature and culture

MANILA, Philippines - Poet and philosopher, the nature lover Henry David Thoreau once embarked on a two-year experiment in the 19th century to find the bridge that joined man and natural world. Living on the edge of town, not far from his family and often visited by good friends, Thoreau wrote his masterwork “Walden,” in which he explored the possibility of that middle ground that did not reject civilization nor fully embraced wilderness — envisioning the ideal pastoral realm that integrated nature and culture, where one could also indulge in introspection and realize the ultimate truth.

If it were possible for him to live to this age, Thoreau may have found reason to smile and embrace Montecito, an eco-friendly development in Ayala Land Premier’s masterplanned Nuvali in idyllic Canlubang, Laguna. It’s a place that similarly celebrates getting in touch with nature and the self, away from the distractions of the city but still within reach of other communities — especially when you consider it’s 10 minutes away from the Nuvali business district and 15 minutes away from the Sta Rosa lifestyle centers.

Just recently, the vivifying union between nature and culture at Montecito was celebrated during ‘Recipes for Living,’ an event which gave prospective buyers a taste of the life that the development has to offer.

Those with an appetite for sweets joined in the fun of decorating their own pastries before enjoying them after lunch. A few created their own stylish recipe boxes to file future heirloom recipes they would try in their own homes. Meanwhile, other activities were also planned around Montecito’s stellar features. Some participants were given pots/clay dishes where they created unique miniature herb gardens using herbs from Montecito’s plant nursery. Those who have a penchant for fishing on the other hand, had fun at the Montecito Lake.

The various workshops or activities during the ‘Recipes for Living’ event underscored that it is at Montecito where one can find his cup of tranquilty. It is where you have a more-than-generous heaping tablespoon of space. Add a sumptuous sprinkling of sustainability, then mix them all together to create the path to a life well lived.

Named after the Spanish term for “little mountain” Montecito is situated on elevated land, and the area enjoys cooler climates compared to neighboring lowland properties and lot owners will enjoy relaxing views of the surrounding area, including Tagaytay, Laguna de Bay and even the Makati skyline on a clear day.
