Shaping Cebuano architecture

MANILA, Philippines - We shape our buildings and thereafter they shape us.

When asked what the most fascinating aspect about architecture is, noted Cebu-based architect Jose Mari Cañizares imparts the abovementioned quote by Winston Churchill.

And this precept has served him well for the past 35 years that he has been practicing architecture. Serving in his own firm J. M. Cañizares Architects, Jose Mari Cañizares was named as the 2003 “Outstanding Professional of the Year” by the PRC. He has been responsible for a diverse range of architectural projects including the Mactan International airport terminals and over 200 residential and beach houses.

Now, along with Archt. Vuck Richnold Sia, Archt. Jensen Racho, Archt. Francisco Noel, Arch. Benboy Emporio,Archt. Jezrel Pabuntan,Archt. Emmanuel Cuizon, Archt. Adnerolf Barrios, Archt. Coleen Espinosa, he is one of the architects to be featured in the Philippine Building and Construction Exposition (PHILBEX) to be held at the Cebu International Convention Center from May 21-24, 2009.
