Megaworld to Develop P7-B First Phase of Newport City
June 3, 2006 | 12:00am
Property giant Megaworld Corporation is spending a total of P7 billion over a three- to four-year period for the development of the first phase of Newport City, a groundbreaking, 25-hectare mixed-use project at the Villamor air base in Pasay City.
Megaworld envisages Newport City as the home of "the metro's first and only paradise resort residences." Newport City will also host a world-class hotel as well as first-rate entertainment and sports facilities beside the 60-hectare, 18-hole Villamor golf course.
Set for completion by 2008, the first phase of the project includes a 350-room Marriott Hotel, a nature-centered residential area and a commercial-and-sports complex.
A global hospitality brand, Marriott Hotel at Newport City is the first in Metro Manila and the second in the country after Cebu. Megaworld has tapped the award-winning Hirsch Bedner Associates to design the hotel's interiors including the grand lobby.
Meanwhile, the 3.2-hectare Residential Resort, a low-density community development, is the first residential cluster to rise at Newport City. Only 40 percent of its total land area is dedicated to four Mediterranean-themed communities: Montecito, Sarasota and Pinehurst. Open parks and landscaped gardens comprise the rest of the area.
Both the hotel and the Residential Resort host an array of resort-inspired recreational and sporting facilities.
Newport City's second phase will include a business park and a themed shopping and entertainment hub.
Megaworld Investor Relations Officer John Hao is optimistic that the upcoming Newport City will be at par with Asia's top hotel and golf resorts.
Bounded by Andrews Avenue and Sales Street, Newport City borders the Villamor golf course on the east side. It is a five-minute drive away from Magallanes Village, and enjoys a prime location close to the Bonifacio Global City and its international schools, the Makati and Ortigas business districts, as well as the Manila Bay area.
