One of the country’s most popular ceramic tiles brand is proudly Filipino.

Eurotiles is manufactured by Eurotiles Industrial Corp., which started it plant operations in April 1992. The company’s 6.7-hectare plant facility is located at Silang, Cavite and is capable of producing from 10,000 to 15,000 square meters of white-body ceramic tiles daily. It is an ISO 9001 certified company.

According to company officials, everything that is produced is sold locally because the local demand is still going strong.

In July 2002, the tile adhesive and tile grout plant started production. Eurotiles Superior Tile Adhesive is a thin-bed line bonding material engineered for fixing ceramic floor and wall tiles to rendered concrete surfaces. This cement-based tile bonding adhesive can be used for interior and exterior applications and can be used on tile over tile or tile over marble.

On the one hand, Eurotiles Superior Tile Grout is a designer’s tile joint filler developed to complement the ceramic tiles’ aesthetic quality. It is used to fill the joints between laid ceramic tiles and is available in 16 designer colors.

Eurotiles superior ceramic tiles cover a wide range of floor tile designs. To compliment locally produced white-body ceramic floor tiles, the company has been importing wall tiles, listels, and selected floor tile designs from Spain, Italy, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and most recently Brazil.

Ceramic tiles products are popularly used as floor and wall covers on bathrooms, kitchens, dining rooms, living rooms, hallway, lobbies, hospital floors, hostel rooms, restaurants, shops, lanais, clean-room area, and theme areas. Eurotiles products are also used in swimming pool and as covering on facades. There are at present more than 400 designs and colors to choose from in varying sizes.

Eurotiles’ ceramic tiles make use of white clay as primary raw material. White clay can withstand much higher temperatures than red clay and is thus considered a premium material.

Here are some tips from Eurotiles on choosing the right tile:

Safety Feature. The main characteristic is slip resistance. This is fundamental for floor tiles that are to be used in homes, offices, industrial areas, and outdoors. Generally, matte finish and textured tiles have higher slip resistance than glossy tiles.

Design Considerations. The tiles must fit in with the furnishing and the range of objects, colors, shapes, and activities that exist in the environment. They must also match the environment’s shape, dimensions, area and lighting. This choice also depends on the personal taste and fashion so it is difficult to lay down rules. However, thematic areas that bring about a specific ambiance can be easily designed.

Technical Considerations. The tile should have technical characteristics and levels of resistance to stress (mechanical, chemical, thermal) that will be adequate for the environment in which they are installed. The greater the probable stress will be, the higher the performance and the more resistant the tiles must be. Generally, a shiny polished surface is beautiful but is also more likely to lose the shine than non-polished surfaces. This is especially true for porcelain tiles and high-gloss tiles installed on heavy traffic areas.

Federal Hardware Builder’s Center which opened its flagship branch along Chino Roces Avenue in Makati is fast becoming a destination point for architects, engineer and contractors. Even couples and entire families can be seen on weekends shopping for home building and improvement products.
