June 12, 2005 | 12:00am
The City of Taguig conferred on Megaworld Corp. Chairman Andrew Tan an award recognizing his outstanding achievements in business and entrepreneurship at the "Forward Taguig Awards" night held on April 29 at the Taguig City Hall to mark its 418th founding anniversary.
Property giant Megaworld, under Tans leadership, is helping Taguig achieve its vision to become the countrys premier city by 2020 through its "investments and development projects" such as Forbes Town Center and McKinley Hill which are "spurring economic and societal development."
Megaworlds first salvo in Taguig is the P15-billion, five-hectare Forbes Town Center, a joint venture with Bonifacio West Development Corp. now under way near the Manila Golf and Country Club in Bonifacio Global City.
Megaworlds first three residential projects in Forbes Town Center are Forbeswood Heights, with six condominium buildings, and The Bellagio I and II, with 38 and 40 stories, respectively. A consistently strong demand for these projects has made Forbes Town one of the most successful developments in the Global City.
Another groundbreaking Megaworld project envisioned to transform Fort Bonifacio into a modern business district is the 50-hectare McKinley Hill, located near Forbes Park and the Manila Golf and Country Club. McKinley Hills first project is a residential lot subdivision called McKinley Hill Village that boasts a private road, now nearly complete, connecting it directly to Ayala Avenue in Makati.
McKinley Hill will also host four-story residential clusters as well as a town center with office and retail space and an institutional area with schools, cultural centers and other recreational institutions.
Tans co-awardees, all well known in their respective fields, are boxer Manny Pacquiao, sports; Miss International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman, tourism, arts and culture; broadcaster Rene Sta. Cruz, journalism; DOST Undersecretary Eriberta B. Nepomuceno, science and technology; Polytechnic University of the Phil. VP for Research & Development Dr. Normita L. Villa, education; UNESCO Commissioner Taha M. Basman, public service; Taguig Council of Women Balikatan Movement, Inc. President Herminia Perez, community service; and Atty. Nicanor Patricio, law.
Former president Fidel V. Ramos was presented with an award of merit while PO1 Abel P. Arreola, who was killed during the Abu Sayyaf siege at Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan in March this year, received a special posthumous award.
