Union Cement gets award

Union Cements Bulacan Plant won a grand slam of three major awards in the 50th anniversary of the PMSEA awarded during the Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference held from Nov. 11-13, 2003 in Manila. It bagged the Presidential Mineral Industry Environment Award (PMIEA), the Safest Cement Plant and the Best Mining Forest. UCC -La Union plant also won the PMIEA for the second straight year.
The awards were conferred by President Arroyo, DENR Secretary Elisea G. Gozun, and NEDA Secretary Romulo Neri at ceremonies held at the Manila Hotel. Receiving the Awards for Union Cement were Unions COO Paul OCallaghan, Alex Vornow, Julius Yballe, and James Descallar.
The PMIEA is the highest recognition for the private sectors initiatives and exemplary achievements in the protection of the environment. It acknowledges a companys outstanding level of dedication, initiative, and innovation in the pursuit of excellence in environmental exploration and mining, environmental management, mine safety, reforestation program, development of host and neighboring communities, and land use improvements.
