Housing for poor Pasay City folks
August 2, 2003 | 12:00am
The hope of the very poor families in Pasay City along with the informal earners to own a house can now be realized through the help of the Integrated Pabahay and Bayanihan Banking Program (IPBBP).
Pasay City Mayor Wenceslao "Peewee" Trinidad and the City Council have eyed an 18-hectare land in Bacoor-Molino, Cavite, as the relocation sites for the citys poor who are living along the Tripa de Galina creek, sidewalks and government-owned lots.
Earlier, the Pasay City government through its Housing Board, the HUDCC and HLURB had come into terms by providing socialized housing among the poor residents who are members of strong and able neighborhood associations. Through this program, the member-households shall only pay P400 to P500 as monthly amortization for 25 years for their own new house and lot.
The Pasay Bayanihan Banking Program (BBP) is a savings-driven micro-finance program that can be integrated with social protection plan, health plan, cooperative housing plan, and other local/national development programs. It is noted that Pasay BBP received the "Gawad Galing Pook 2002 Award" as presented by President Arroyo.
The Integrated Pabahay and Bayanihan Banking Program is a partnership of the Pasay City Government with United Nations Development Program (UNDP), HUDCC, HLURB, DILG, VEDCOR, BCMP, PCUC and Pasay City Households.
