Assumption student tops Quadrillion, PIID-sponsored interior design contest

Believing in the talent of Filipinos, Quadrillion Group of Companies (QGC) through its project La Joya de Sta. Rosa in Laguna, discovered a jewel among students of Philippine Interior Design.

Located at the heart of Flourishing Sta. Rosa, La Joya makes an ideal home for new Filipino. Over 24 hectares of land is crafted into an eco-friendly community. About 40 percent of the area is dedicated to open space, allowing the perfect blend of nature and man in a Spanish-Mediterranean setting.

With the unique rendition of a Spanish-Mediterranean concept infusing a modern touch, Kathryn Antonio of Assumption College was awarded the top price in the recently concluded Student Interior Design Contest conducted by QGC & PIID. Twenty-year old Antonio says that there is more to it than the cash prize. "It was a challenge for me to conceptualize a Spanish-Mediterranean design using indigenous materials combining nature with modern contemporary design.

The winning design of Kathryn features creative touches such as utilizing woven fabric as wall décor, native "bayongs" as umbrella containers, and bamboo as placemats. "It’s Spanish-Mediterranean with a touch of Filipino accents", quips Antonio. Students like her will have a bright future in Interior Design now that they were able to share their creative talents through this competition. Kathryn believes that Quadrillion should continue their quest in discovering young talents. She adds, "We are happy that aside from developing high class residential subdivision for Filipino families, they encourage young people like us to appreciate the beauty of their projects by promoting the Filipino skill in interior design."
