Coast Guard to acquire 30-hectare lot in Zambales

- Nestor Etolle -
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is set to acquire about 30 hectares of land at the Naval Reservation Area of the Philippine Navy in San Narciso, Zambales for its training exercises under a memorandum of agreement between the two armed agencies of the government.

The agreement forms part of several real state acquisitions of the Coast Guard to broaden its base and improve its maritime safety enforcement functions, according to PCG spokesman Lt. Arman Balilo.

He added that aside from the Zambales property, the PCG has also received proposals for a donation of about 3.1910 hectares in Mangagoy Cajimos, Romblon as site for the agency’s rescue base and search and rescue training center.

A request for a PCG Guesthouse at the Navy Base in Baguio City to the chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is under evaluation, Balilo said.

All of these land acquisitions, according to Balilo, has been the primary task of the PCG’s Real Estate Management Office which is mandated to take the lead with respect to the administration of all real estate, in possession or soon to be acquired by the PCG.

Created in Sept. 28, 2000, the Real Estate Management Office is under the supervision of the chief of staff for logistics (CG-4) which is responsible for the following accomplishments:

• On Feb.11, 2000, PCG commandant Vice Admiral Reuben Lista and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) general manager Alfonso Cusi signed a memorandum of agreement for the use of some 30, 393 sq. m. of land at Farola Compound in North Harbor, Manila as Coast Guard Reservation Area. The agreement is effective for 25 years with an option for the PCG to renew the contract for another 25 years.

• A Deed of Perpetual Use by the PCG of some 8,400 sq. m. lot at the Regional Center in Rahay, Legaspi, Albay through a Sangguniang Panglungsod resolution. The lot will be used for the relocation of Coast Guard Bicol District headquarters and construction of the agency’s facility, boat landing and quarters for officers and enlisted personnel.

• A donation by Medina Fabrigas of 100 sq. m. lot in Concepcion, Romblon on May 2001 to be used as a Coast Guard station.

• A Deed of Perpetual Use by the PCG of a 100 sq. m. lot in Sagay City through a Sangguniang Panglungsod Resolution dated Oct. 11, 2001 for lighthouse project for the benefit of vessels passing along the Visayas seas.

• A Deed of Perpetual Use by the Coast Guard detachment in Naga, Camarines Sur of 100 sq. m. lot by virtue of a municipal resolution.
