SHDA seeks support for private sector housing

-
The Subdivision and Housing Developers Association, Inc. (SHDA), the country’s leading organization of subdivision and housing develoeprs, has called for an industry-wide rally to support private, sector initiatives to fast tract permit issuance process.

Newly elected SHDA officials Atty. Teofisto L. Guingona III and Jesus B. Atencio, SHDA national chairman and national president, respectively, made this appeal during the SHDA election for new set of governors for fiscal year 2002-2003 held last July 4 at Shangri-La Hotel, Makati City.

Guingona made a call to support the current private sector initiatives to reduce to 90 days the permit issuance process for subdivision developments. He added that the government should mobilize the industry for a massive production of decent and affordable housing units that will perk up renewed economic activities and employment generation.

For his part, SHDA national president Jesus B. atencio noted industry wide clamor to effect President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s Executive Order no. 45 which prescribes time periods for the issuance of housing-related certifications, clearances and permits, while at the same time imposing sanctions for failure to comply with said executive order.

Atencio added that SHDA was among the forefront in pushing for E.O. 45. Further, Mr. Atencio emphasized the important role of private sector in the housing industry. "Aside from agriculture, housing should be utilized to spur economic developments and promote social well-being of the people. The government together with the private sector should make it happen and we should move housing forward for 2002 and beyond", Atencio added.
