Taft Tower topping off on Feb 14
February 9, 2002 | 12:00am
The De la Salle University System and E. Ganzon Inc., developer of the Taft Tower, recently announced the topping-off ceremony of the Taft Tower to be held on Feb. 14 at 4 p.m.
The topping off ceremony is a tradition, especially in vertical construction works, where the last bucket of concrete is hoisted and poured into place to signify that the highest structural point of building construction has at last been attained. In the bucket is customarily placed a leaf to symbolize that the building project has proceeded well, without injury, and as a good luck charm for occupants of the building in the future.
The De la Salle University System is a group of schools principally run by the Congregation of Christian Schools or La Salle brothers who maintain a high standard of education and adhere to the teachings and ideals of St. John Baptist de la Salle. The Taft Tower is located in the premises of the De la Salle-Taft campus between the engineering and computer science buildings.
Last year, Bro. Rolando Dizon, FSC, president of La Salle and with the approval of its high caliber board of trustees, finalized the completion of several floors for the housing facilities of its faculty members. Committed to the program of providing housing to its employees, both academic and non-academic personnel, the Taft Tower cannot but be an ideal housing facility due to its proximity to work. In many universities in Europe and North America, this trend to provide quarters within the university campus has been noted.
E. Ganzon Inc. (EGI) has been known for its pioneering condominium projects in various parts of Metro Manila and Cebu. Its Taft Tower project located at 2339 Taft Avenue, Manila, is a 29- story affair. For a while interrupted by the Asian crisis that began in 1997, EGI is now ready to recover its place in condominium development. This significant ceremony on Valentines Day would be a very timely move and an encouraging one for the Philippine economy.
After the topping-off, cocktails will follow at the La Casita located at the 2/F PE and Sports Building, DLSU-Manila. Sources confirmed that La Salle alumni, parents, faculty and employees, members of media, friends of EGI and DLSU, government personalities and celebrities have been invited. A program will spice up the grand affair.
