MANILA, Philippines – Isuzu introduces new 3.0-liter engine in mu-X and D-Max

Known for their stellar comfort, reliability, and durability, both the Isuzu D-Max and mu-X are adding a new adjective to their name: powerful. In response to public clamor for a bigger engine, Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) has finally introduced new variants of its well-received D-Max and mu-X fitted with a 3.0-liter VGS Turbo engine.

“While our current D-Max and mu-X line-up is very much appreciated by the market, there are those who wish to have more power. Thus, we are giving our customers the freedom to choose—between our current 2.5-liter engine and the new 3.0 VGS Turbo variant,” said IPC president Hajime Koso.

Equipped with a 4JJ1-TC (HI) 3.0-liter diesel engine featuring both Common Rail Direct Injection (CRDI) and a Variable Geometry System (VGS) turbocharger, this new power plant produces 163 hp at 3,200 rpm (up 16 percent) and 380 Nm of torque (up 15 percent) from 1,800 to 2,200 rpm. This ensures less gear changes, effortless hill climbing, and an easier drive both on- and off-road. These engines are mated to the smooth and well-geared 5-speed manual (D-Max) and automatic (mu-X and D-Max).

Coinciding with the arrival of this new engine, IPC has also added more premium features on both models to make them safer. On their bestselling mu-X, they’ve added new LED daytime running lights. Not only do they act as an accident avoidance safety feature, but it also manages to enhance the exterior of its mid-sized SUV. For the venerable D-Max, already recognized by the ASEAN NCAP as one of the safest pickups in the market, it gets a new tailgate-mounted reverse camera. Projected on the 7-inch touchscreen entertainment system, it helps assist drivers during tight parking maneuvers. Furthermore, the D-Max also gets a new chrome muffler cutter that goes along with the chrome finishes found on the front grille, door handle, and rear door garnish.

The Isuzu D-Max and mu-X equipped with the 3.0 VGS Turbo engine is now available at all Isuzu dealerships nationwide. Both models come with a wide array of colors to suit every individual taste.

The Isuzu mu-X is available in six shades: Splash White, Cosmic Black, Titanium Silver, Aqua Blue, Outback Brown, and Silky Pearl White. The prices are set at P1,398,000 for the 4x2 LS-A A/T and P 1,708,000 for the 4x4 LS-A A/T. An additional P10,000 is added for the Silky Pearl White color.

Meanwhile, the Isuzu D-Max comes in a new shade of Venetian Red along with four other colors: Cosmic Black, Garnet Red, Titanium Silver, and Splash White. The Isuzu D-Max 4x2 LS M/T is priced at P1,090,000, D-Max 4x2 LS A/T at P1,160,000, D-Max 4x4 LS M/T at P1,360,000, and D-Max 4x4 LS A/T at P1,430,000.
