Hyundai & Shell: Pioneering technology at the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2015
MANILA, Philippines - In this age of technology, energy-efficient cars are ever more present, continuously taking up a portion of the automotive landscape. Hyundai Asia Resources, Incorporated (HARI) seeks to further promote this trend as it takes part in the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia for the second straight year, setting the bar high for automotive companies and distributors in the Philippines.
Shell Eco-Marathon is a global program that encourages students from around the world to build the most energy-efficient cars. It champions education to face challenges in energy resources today.
Hyundai, the official mobility partner of Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2015, is proud to participate in this event as it shares the same vision of innovating to help shape the future. Every year, the Shell Eco-Marathon presents the best automobile works and concepts that place a premium on energy-efficiency. Hyundai walks hand in hand with Shell to both educate and encourage the keyholders of the automotive industry in taking this earth-friendly route.
Best of Both Worlds
On its own, Hyundai has been taking steps in the past years to contribute to the environment. The product of all these efforts is the Fuel Cell.
The Hyundai Fuel Cell technology combines the best features of a traditional gasoline-powered car and an electric vehicle, helping create a green and advanced car. This technology is used in the Hyundai ix35.
Powered by hydrogen, the ix35 Fuel Cell emits zero amount of carbon, making it the ideal environment-friendly car. It takes only three minutes to refuel, unlike an electric vehicle that usually takes hours before it is ready for use.
Once refuelled, the ix35 Fuel Cell, now available in the North American market, can go up to 600 kilometers, showcasing its high fuel-efficiency. It also offers instant torque and a silent drive to please keen drivers. The ix35 Fuel Cell also has premium safety features like parking sensors, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and a generous amount of airbags (six) to give you a safe and complete driving experience.
Hyundai is preparing fun activities in the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2015 to further educate Filipinos about energy efficiency, highlighted by an interactive driving video game. In the said game, visitors can build and drive a car through a motion-input console. In addition to this, Hyundai will show informative videos that will discuss the fuel cell technology, alongside a story wall that will illustrate its impact to Filipinos. There will also be pop quizzes where winners can bring home exclusive Hyundai goodies.
The Hyundai GDi
Hyundai will also showcase the 2014 Hyundai Veloster, which uses its version of the Gasoline Direct Injection (GDi) engine. The GDi engine has a shorter, more direct path of fuel delivery, which allows for greater control of the fuel mixture at the optimum moment, thus improving efficiency. The GDi is also known for lower emissions, further contributing to the earth-friendly efforts.
Hyundai blazed a new trail with two achievements on the GDi. First, it used the technology in a downsized 1.6-liter, 4-cylinder Gamma engine. Also, it has made the GDi engine available in various models, not just for higher-end ones.
Hyundai’s Fuel Cell and GDi are milestones that realize the company’s vision of innovation and environment preservation. Learn more about these technologies in the Shell Eco-Marathon Asia 2015 from February 26 to March 1 at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila.
