Bridgestone embarks on major CSR projects

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Bridgestone’s commitment to being a tire company that pioneers best practices and holds steadfast in its pursuit of being a constructive member of the global community is in full swing in the Philippines.

Bridgestone recognizes that its initiatives have a significant impact on the Earth’s environment. To raise environmental awareness and encourage greener activities to contribute to achieving a sustainable society, Philippine Allied Enterprises Corporation (PAEC), the exclusive distributor of Bridgestone in the country hosted the first ever Bridgestone ECOmmunity; a weekend-long CSR activity highlighting the company’s thrust for sustainable motoring for the future last August 9-10 at Glorietta Activity Center in Makati.

Through the ECOmmunity campaign, Bridgestone continuously promotes a string of activities that comprehensively addresses the many fronts wherein the global tire maker can make a positive impact on motorists, industries, local com-munities and the environment.

On the product front, Bridgestone tires are now at the cutting-edge of environmental friendliness. From the incorporation of recycled materials in tire production, to a manufacturing process that utilizes renewable energy and minimizes waste, all the way to the emissions-cutting performance of their tires, Bridgestone’s commitment to greener products and a greener world is highly evident. In the commercial transportation sector, Bridgestone’s Bandag retreads are extending the lifespan of commercial vehicle tires and are helping major businesses in minimizing both costs and environmental impact.

Part of the objective of the ECOmmunity campaign is the continuous education of motorists for a safe and smart motoring community in the country. Free seminars on road safety and other motoring topics advocating responsible driving and greener motoring habits were conducted at the Glorietta Activity Center. Well-respected speakers sharing their knowledge on their topics of expertise included JP Tuason from Tuason Racing School (TRS), renowned motoring journalist and STAR columnist James Deakin, Bilstein Philippines president, Alvin Lim, Miguel Pana from the MMDA, and chief engineer of AutoplusSportzentrium Francisco Blanco, to name a few.

As an additional highlight, the local communities that have been visited and helped by Bridgestone PAEC employees through the years were commemorated in the Bridgestone Cares exhibit. Tree-planting and children’s playground construc-tions were some of the activities presented.

“To showcase these and further our mission of improving the safety and lives of people everywhere, especially on the road, we have built Bridgestone’s first-ever ECOmmunity,” said Marc Tagle, president and CEO of Philippine Allied Enterprises Corporation. “Rest assured that we will continuously strive to provide our customers with the best products and services. We strive to continue our journey in making this world a better place.”
