MANILA, Philippines - Caltex Philippines has teamed up with the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) for a fly-drive caravan to Negros Occidental by AAP’s subsidiary, AAP Travel to promote “drive tourism.â€
Spearheaded by former Tourism Secretary and AAP Travel President Mina Gabor, the AAP Drive Tourism program encourages Filipinos to explore the country’s tourist attractions by driving around the countryside.
Themed “A Food Expedition, A Walk through Heritage Sites and a Farm Tourism Experience,†the first-ever fly and drive caravan organized by AAP Travel toured the province’s top tourist spots such as the iconic century-old The Ruins in Talisay City and sugar plantations in Silay City aboard one of the world’s last remaining functioning steam locomotives.
The participants also visited the ancestral houses and museums of Silay, the organic farm in Rapha Valley and Mambukal Resort located at the foot of Mt. Kanlaon.
As one of the country’s leading oil firms, Caltex shares the vision of AAP and the DOT in promoting domestic tourism. With the tagline “Enjoy the Journey,“ Caltex aims to become a part of every touring Filipino’s life by providing clean, efficient fuel and supporting road safety campaigns to make travel across the archipelago truly more fun.
According to the Land Transportation Office, there are more than 7 million registered vehicle owners in the country, making drive tourism an ideal travel and leisure activity.
