MANILA, Philippines - Early this year, the people behind the Royal Enfield brand in the Philippines - Hardcore Brothers Custom Motorcycles, Inc., decided to put the Classic Bullet 500 to the test and entered three bikes to the 2012 Boss Ironman Challenge, a test of rider and machine to finish 1400 kms in 24 hours around northern Luzon. The all-metal machine delivered with flying colors—never breaking down or faltering and bringing all three riders home to finish at a very decent 21 hours and 45 minutes along with the other 160 or so riders out of 350 who participated.
Then shortly after, they set out to join the Petron Saferun, a 750-km ride around Central Luzon where riders must finish within a given time period with the least amount of gas consumed. They entered three Bullets and with its single piston thumper using electronic fuel injection, got a clean sweep at the finish line—1st, 2nd & 3rd place in the 400cc to 649cc category.
These accomplishments were achieved because of what the Royal Enfield Bullet is about: durability and economy in a classic package. More recently, the Bullet added another feather in its cap. This time around, it won an award in the recently concluded C! Magazine Awards, the first time that the magazine has included motorcycles in its annual awards.
The motorcycle category which the Royal Enfield Classic Bullet 500 won was the Standard Category. This category is distinguished from the others as a bike with a comfortable riding position, over-all decent performance, form and features. Under this “Standard” category, the Royal Enfield Bullet Classic won unanimously, besting two popular Japanese models. According to the judges, they chose the Enfield as the winner due to its “character” which the other two nominees lacked.
