Direct Link offers FREE Acts of God cover

MANILA, Philippines - Many of us were caught off guard when typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng struck the country successively in late September and early October. One of the many lessons this recent experience taught us is the importance of insurance, which, regrettably has been an unpopular allocation of our hard-earned income. Filipinos, in general, would rather spend for more immediate and basic needs like food, shelter and education. And this makes the Philippines one of the most underinsured markets in the whole of Asia.

Loss of property can be financially crippling but having insurance is probably the best option to be able to “cushion the blow” if and when it happens. However, it also goes without saying that those who have insurance should check the fine print of their policy to be sure that their most precious assets are covered from risks or perils that you want it covered from. Case in point, many policyholders of comprehensive car insurance were left in regret when their claim was denied because their policies do not include an Acts of God coverages.

By definition, the standard comprehensive car insurance provides financial protection against loss of or damage to your car and against liability to a third party, as a result of an accident. It does not automatically cover natural calamities, also referred to in insurance lingo as Acts of God (or Acts of Nature), like the recent typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.

The Acts of God or AOG coverage is an optional coverage that costs about 0.5 to 0.7 percent of the vehicle’s market value or P2,500 to P3,500 in premium for a car worth P500K, which is not a painful amount to pay considering that getting a flood-submerged car fixed can cost you a hefty sum of about P150,000. One insurance company reported that a week after Ondoy, they received inquiries from 300 vehicle owners with AOG coverage and that holders of such polices are expected to receive P200,000 per vehicle.

Direct Link Insurance, the pioneer in transacting car insurance via the telephone actually made an adroit response to this need by offering FREE AOG coverage from October 26 to November 13 for those who will secure their comprehensive car insurance during the period.
