Filipino-Developed Diesel Additive Brings Back Lost Power, Improves Fuel Efficiency

Diesel engines are indeed the wave of the future, and are the preferred power plant type of the commercial vehicle sector. Aside from being efficient, powerful, and economical, the promise of being able to derive diesel fuel through non-conventional means assures the continued existence of diesel technology for the years to come. It is also a recipient of various technological breakthroughs, making it more powerful and fuel-efficient as ever.
Since the diesel engine is built to withstand large amounts of energy generated by the ignition of the air/diesel mixture, thereby making it more durable, it is not uncommon to see old iterations of it still powering a large quantity of buses and jeepneys. Coupled with the fact that they are already used, abused, and poorly maintained, one perennially sees the dark side of the diesel engine: sooty, noisy, and an environmental hazard.
Many have addressed these concerns. Some have invented fuel saving devices, meant to be connected to the engine that promises a complete combustion and improved efficiency, but this comes at a price. Others, meanwhile, concocted some additives that are meant to be blended together with the engine oil so as to improve engine performance, but this is not recommended by the vehicle manufacturers themselves, as these additives introduce foreign material which may upset the metallurgy of the metal parts. In short, oil additives may prematurely damage the engine.
Fret no more. A new additive designed to bring back the lost luster of the diesel engine is set to break new ground by diesel engine owners. Invented by car enthusiast Palamedes "Dusky" Lim, his new additive will address diesel engine concerns and pitfalls by ensuring complete combustion of diesel fuel, thereby minimizing harmful emissions while bringing back the lost power.
Simply put, his additive contains a myriad of chemicals designed to help the engine completely burn the fuel. "With this additive, improved fuel efficiency is immediately realized, as well as reduced emissions and better idling characteristics," Lim said.
For the additive to work, one must accurately determine the amount of fuel thats in the tank. "One 325 ml bottle will treat exactly 50 liters of diesel fuel; anything higher or lower than that quantity will have no noticeable effect," he adds. Measuring the amount of fuel is quite difficult, especially when most of the public vehicles do not have a fuel gauge to refer to. He advises loading up with 25 liters first, then the additive, and topping up the tank with another 25 liters. This procedure will ensure that an accurate mixture has been made, according to him.
A drive around Commonwealth Avenue onboard his Mazda B-series pick-up quickly validated the claims of his additive. Indeed, the engine ran smoother and produced less smoke. More power was made available due to the complete fuel combustion. Another interesting fact that I noted is that the smoke smelled a little bit different from the usual diesel engine smoke, quite similar to the smoke emitted by common rail diesel engines.
