Cargo shipment is becoming the preferred mode of domestic trade as it is cost-effective, safe, and efficient. Indeed, it has come a long way since the Galleon Trade first anchored in the country.
Producers and retailers alike patronize sea transport because of the plunging peso in the stiff, competitive market, while the consumers appreciate it for affordable regional commerce. Shipment is being used as a matter of course, as the increase in statistics indicate, especially with the governments RoRo Terminal System project.
Contributing to its success is Philharbor Ferries and Ports, Inc. It currently serves the Roxas-Caticlan-Odiongan Route; Matnog, Sorsogon-Dapdap, Allen Northern Samar Route and Lilaon, Leyte-Lipata, Surigao via Maharlika Highway, boosting local economy for nation building and national economy.
Aside from empowering the peso, its linkages that have provided easy conveyance from Manila to outlying provinces have also encouraged domestic tourism. The touring public no longer have to endure travel-related stress. With the introduction of integrated transportation, tourists have been given the chance of opportunity to maximize the experience of island hopping. Just last month, Philharbor upgraded the pleasure of sail with the launch of its company flagship, M/V Maharlika Siete. At 2,075 Gross Tons and 80 meters over all length, she is more resistant to sea travails. As the product of Philharbors Pasyal Pinoy, she has a car deck for 30 cars or 15 buses and 650 passengers in fully airconditioned cabins. The state of the art entertainment equipment and restaurant/ saloon onboard promise an enhanced pleasure of the sail. She will initially be deployed twice daily in the Roxas-Caticlan, Caticlan-Roxas Route. But with a cheap fare as low as P1120 from Manila to Boracay, she would definitely be sailing more for you!
Suddenly, the idea of driving to Boracay sounds like an exciting possibility!
