2004 TRS Ford Lynx Cup and Ducati Cup flag off this weekend

A motor sports extravaganza for four- and two-wheeled machines is set to unfold this weekend when the opening rounds of two of the most exciting and glamorous racing series — the 2004 Tuason Racing School (TRS) Ford Lynx Cup and the 2004 Ducati Cup — flag off on May 22 and 23 at the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC) in Rosario, Batangas.

This year’s TRS Ford Lynx Cup powered by Ford and presented by Addict Mobile promises to be one of the most competitive circuit racing series this motor sports season wherein competitors will drive identically prepared Ford Lynx touring cars that will be a real test of the drivers’ skills and ability.

The TRS Ford Lynx Cup, which is co-presented by Goodyear, Standard Insurance and sponsored by Petron, Ambi Pur, Oakley, K&N, H&R, Options Unlimited, Brother’s Burger, Racegear Pitshop, Octane Racewear, Red Horse and Adidas, with C! Magazine, Trapik.com, and motorista.com.ph as media partners, will feature two categories, namely, the Advanced and Novice Classes

Participants in the advanced series include defending champ Jeff Borja, actor-racer and runner-up Dominic Ochoa, Egay Quesada, Formula Korea star Peter Kim, former karter and touring car driver Lee Bumgarner (father of karting stars Michelle and Mark).

The Advanced Series are scheduled on May 22-23, June 19-20 at the Subic International Raceway and July 10-11 at the BRC, while the Novice Series is set for August 21-22, September 25-26 and October 23-24.

Sharing equal billing in the twin header is the 2004 Ducati Cup, wherein daring riders in their exotic race-bred Ducati big bikes will see action on the tarmac. These powerful machines, which are considered the "Ferraris" of motorcycles will be ridden by Brian K. Ng, former president of the Ducati Club,; Miguel "Miggy" Cervantes, who finished seventh overall in last year’s Ducati Cup; Renato Fernandez, who aims to improve on his fourth overall finish in last year’s series; Paul Anthony Gocolay who finished third overall last year; movie actor Ding Dong Dantes; Love-Love Tioseco, the only lady rider in the field who finished fifth overall last year; Irwin Frondoso who is expected to land anew among the top three riders of the series; Rommel D. Lumagui; and rookies Davidson A. Cometa and Briggs Yalung.

The six-leg series, which is sponsored by Addict Mobile, FHM, Malayan Insurance, Oakley, Gerry’s Grill, Petron, Brother’s Burger, A-Toy, and Access Plus is scheduled on May 22-23, July 10-11, August 21-22, September 25-26, October 23-24, with the final leg scheduled for December 4-5.

According JP Tuason, director of the organizing Tuason Racing School, "With the quality of the field we can expect that the competition will be close and exciting. The Ford Lynx racing cars and the Ducati bikes are all so evenly matched that the drivers and riders’ abilities will be the only factor that will decide the outcome of each race."
