Vortex Drag Wars heat up

The Vortex Drag Wars blasted to a highly-charged second leg last weekend at the Manila Harbour Center with the country’s top drag racers competing for championship points.

Topping the list of participating teams were ATI Racing, Gaspeed, MSF Autoworks, Matonetics, Bagspeed, Racing Zone and Wheels Auto Performance.

The weekend saw record-setting performances by Gaspeed which emerged as the first team with an SOHC all-motor Civic to register astonishingly low 12s on the track. Gaspeed topped the Pro Class B category with ATI Racing placing second.

In the Quick 8 category, Dondi Montecillo rode his Honda Civic hatchback to the victory line, leaving behind the Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4 of Matonetics. Matonetics, however, scored a revenge in the Pro Class event when it won over Montecillo.

In the Pro Class C category, Jose Asuncion of Wheels Auto Performance proved too strong for the competition, while in the All-Honda category, young Nick Benipayo of ATI Racing earned respect as he won in his maiden run.
