In October 1999, a small group of scooter owners met at the service center of Mitsukoshi Motors Philippines, Inc., and found a common enthusiasm for their SYM Jet 100 scooters. They decided to organize other Jet 100 enthusiasts and form a club. Thus, the Jet Riders Club was born.
Registered with the SEC on April 28, 2000, the Jet Riders Club Philippines, Inc. held their first convention on December 17, 2000 at the Bellevue Clubhouse in Quezon City. Having established its vision of being recognized nationwide as the largest and first exclusive scooter club (currently with 300 active members) and as an outstanding and dependable civic organization, the club is likewise pursuing its mission of rendering assistance to the public while promoting the Jet 100.
The club members come from the various sectors of the business community and the society: technicians, messengers, businessmen, corporate managers, artists, writers, computer programmers, analysts, graphic designers and employees. The club has members coming from different place in the country, with chapters formed in Angeles, Vigan and other cities. But during their meetings and sorties, everybody is treated equally and the camaraderie is refreshingly genuine.
Each member have his own stories to tell, from how he got into riding a scooter, the modifications he made to his rides, to the various trips he had around the country. The riders have been to Baguio, Banawe, Bicol, and beyond. One group even went to Pagudpud, at the edge of the Luzon peninsula, and have pictures to prove it. Others became legendary among the club by riding to far-flung destinations, and back, carrying only some cash and spare parts and without the benefit of a back-up vehicle.
Edgar Zulueta, the president of the Jet Riders Club is visibly proud of the club. He has devoted much of his time in forming the club and ensuring that activities happen without a hitch. He is also know as a strict leader and firm enforcer of the policies of the club, especially observing riding rules and traffic regulations. As a consultant to Mitsukoshi Motors, he is also involved in organizing events to promote the SYM products, especially the Jet 100. Recently, the club participated in the "Scooter Showdown" drag race at Clark Airbase in Angeles, Pampanga.
The Jet Riders Club motto says it all: "Have fun, make friends, go places."
