MANILA, Philippines — Patuloy ang pananalasa ni Alex Eala nang gulantangin nito si world No. 2 Iga Swiatek ng Poland sa pamamagitan ng 6-2, 7-5 demolisyon para umusad sa semifinals ng Miami Open kahapon sa Miami, Florida.

Inilabas ni Eala ang matatalim nitong atake para pigilan ang anumang pagtatangka ng five-time Grand Slam champion na si Swiatek.

Si Swiatek ang ikatlong Grand Slam champion na pinataob ni Eala sa Miami Open.

Nauna nang pinatalsik ni Eala sina dating Grand Slam winners Jelena Ostapenko sa second round at Madison Keys sa third round.

Kaya naman hindi makapaniwala si Eala sa panibagong tagumpay na nakamit nito.

“I’m just in disbelief right now. It’s so s­urreal. I’m so happy and so blessed to be able to compete with such a player on this stage,” ani Eala.

Naging armas ni Eala ang tiwala nito sa sarili upang makuha ang panalo laban sa mas beteranong si Swiatek.

“I’m trusting my shots and I have a great team to tell me that I can do it,” ani Eala.

Desidido si Eala na mai­pagptuloy ng kanyang matikas na kamada kaya’t inaasahang ibubuhos pa nito ang kanyang lakas sa kanyang susunod na laban sa semis.

“Just because I won this match or the one before doesn’t make the next one any less tough. If anything it will be more tough, so it will take everything that I have,” ni Eala.

Muling daraan sa ma­tinding pagsubok si Eala dahil makakaharap nito si world No. 4 Jessica Pegula ng Amerika sa semis.

Nakapasok sa semis si Pegula nang gapiin nito si dating US Open champion Emma Raducanu ng Great Britain, 6-4, 6-7 (3/7), 6-2.
