MOPC and SMC: A partnership for charity

MEGA CONGLOMERATE SAN Miguel Corp. (SMC) acted as the major sponsor for the Manila Overseas Press Club (MOPC) golf invitational held at the top-class facilities of the Manila Golf and Country Club in Makati City. The MOPC is a non-stock, non-profit organization of news correspondents, professionals, entrepreneurs, government officials and community leaders who seek to promote free speech and press freedom. Distinguished members of the diplomatic circle namely, Canadian ambassador Neil Reeder, Japanese ambassador Kazuhide Ishikawa, Indian ambassador L.D. Ralte, Indonesian ambassador Johny Lumintang and Russian Embassy second secretary Andrey Berdnikov joined MOPC president Babe Romualdez for the ceremonial tee-off. As always, the said event was an unprecedented success as corporate executives not only from SMC but other firms as well as me- dia editors took part in an afternoon of golfing fun for a cause where parts of the proceed will go to MOPC’s scholarship program and other projects. Emerging as overall champion was ambassador Neil Reeder with STAR business columnist Mary Ann Reyes and SMC’s Peter Unlay coming in as first and second runners-up respectively. Adding to the excitement during the awarding ceremony were the special raffle prizes given away such as gas fuel certificates from Petron donated by Nolan Rada, gift certificates from The Bellevue Manila, a three-day / two-night stay at The Bellevue Resort and a grand accommodation plus airfare to the super exclusive Balesin Island Resort courtesy of Alphaland president lawyer Babes Oreta.
