Budding entrepreneur finds success in video,TV production
MANILA, Philippines - If there’s someone who can prove that passion can take you places, it’s young entrepreneur Frank Lloyd Mamaril. His passion for video and TV production was able to bring him to picturesque cities in Italy and Belgium to shoot and produce a TV special.
After pursuing a career in the media industry for almost a decade, Mamaril dipped his toes in an endeavor that he believed would be rewarding. And it proved to be one.
In September last year, Mamaril set up FLM Creatives and Productions Inc., a creative agency composed of passionate and young individuals who create videos for television, events, and new media.
“Just like in any business, the lifeblood of this business is its people. They make up the brand,” muses Mamaril, who produced and directed on-air promos and special project materials for ABS-CBN Publishing before he decided to jump into the business bandwagon.
Armed with production experience and sheer determination to carve out a name for himself, Mamaril was generous enough to share his knowledge and expertise to his staff and trained them in producing quality event videos that talk about brands and supplement these companies’ activations and marketing campaigns.
“It was really hard in the beginning. The team and I went through a lot of transition periods and gruelling hours just to create the brand that we are today,” recalls Mamaril. “I had to train my people while still being present on the field for production work.”
Everything paid off in the end. Mamaril acknowledges that 2014 is so far a good year for his budding business. It also helped that he was able to create a credible name in his circle. “With the help of my colleagues from the industry, my previous employers from ABS-CBN, and trusted friends, I began to pick up more clients. I also partnered with some of the best event companies in the Philippines to gain more exposure.”
Eventually, more and more clients were impressed by the quality of work that FLM Creatives and Productions Inc. delivered. “We earned the trust of clients and month after month, we get to produce more compelling and creative videos for event and new media. The company’s portfolio has grown since.”
Mamaril considered the team’s work for Miss World Philippines 2013 as one of the turning points for FLM Creatives and Productions Inc. “I saw that the team was really united and we got to produce the videos on time.” After the production company’s successful stint with Miss World Philippines 2013, more clients came in. FLM Creatives and Productions Inc. then continued to produce five fashion documentaries for a lifestyle channel and completed video production projects for some of the most talked-about events in the country.
“The ins and outs of this kind of business is never glamorous as how many people perceive it to be. It entails a lot of guarding the quality of videos we produce and establishing partnerships with the right people,” says Mamaril. “I loved the days when I was employed because it was a training ground for me. It opened my eyes to what this industry is about. But I realized I was bound for something bigger. Setting up this business has been a learning experience for me. It has also been an opportunity to provide jobs to others and inspire them to pursue bigger dreams.”
For Mamaril, every project is a milestone because every client has a unique story to tell. The team also takes this opportunity to play more and inject creative juices in each production. “The company’s gearing toward producing more specials and documentaries in 2015,” he says.
Mamaril advises aspiring entrepreneurs to take care of their employees because these people keep the business running. He concludes, “There are no shortcuts to success. Problems will always be there so you have to be prepared to face them. When all things fail, I remind myself that my passion brought me to where I am now.”
