Software developer turns to growing mobile market

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - In the past decade, the pace at which mobile technology has spread globally has been unmatched in history.

In 2003, 61 percent of the world’s population had mobile cell signal. By 2010, 90 percent of the world was mobile ready. The United Nations International Telecommunication Union reports that there are now 6.8 billion mobile subscriptions worldwide,  closing in on the world’s 7.1 billion population. More than half of these subscriptions are in the Asia-Pacific region, and mobile cellular penetration rates are assessed at 96 percent globally; 128 percent in developed countries and 89 percent in developing countries like the Philippines.

This prevalent use of mobile technology has given rise to the ICT industry, as well as companies such as Lifedata Systems, Inc., a software development company specializing in solutions for markets in healthcare, wellness, lifestyle and education.

Recognizing the role of technology towards better lives, Lifedata Systems debuts the ‘’Digital Life Congress and Expo’’ on Nov. 14-16,  at the World Trade Center, Pasay City, as an annual event that aims to open and explore avenues of modernization.

“The mobile revolution has taken over virtually everything,” says Lifedata Systems president and CEO Maria Lourdes S. Florendo. “With the rising popularity of smartphones, tablets, and cloud technology, consumers are excited to benefit from applications that will dramatically improve human life.

However, technological breakthroughs require an understanding of the issues, challenges, and opportunities that go with it.”

Technology for better life

Established in 2008 by Florendo, together with Angela Pilar M. Mendiola and Ian Sison,  Lifedata Systems is a pioneer in healthcare informatics, especially in electronic medical record system for healthcare institutions and service providers.

Its flagship product, the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Software, was awarded ‘Groundbreaking Technology of the Year’ in 2008 and 2009 by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM).

EMR was also given an Award of Merit at the Galing-Likha Kalusugan Awards 2012 by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) and the Center for Health Market Associations (CHMI) in cooperation with the Rockefeller Foundation, USA. It is also the only software endorsed and accredited by Philippine Medical Association for the standardization of computerization of patient records in the Philippines.”

The company’s technical prowess and innovation shows in its performance, posting a 193 percent revenue growth and 95 percent projected net income for 2013, and a 750 percent employee growth since 2009.

With major clients such as Globe Telecom, Medicard, Zuellig Pharma, Kato Reproductive Biotech, eHealth, CBORD, and California Pizza Kitchen, Lifedata Systems continues to come up with solutions that bring people, opportunities, and ideas together to improve the quality of life.

This year, Lifedata launches its LifeCloud, a highly secured multi-industry platform to four digital growth areas of the economy, namely Healthcare and Wellness, Business and Technology, Edge (Education, Games, Design, and Entertainment), and Lifestyle and Tourism.

Addressing the growing needs of the Digital Life Congress and Expo organized by Lifedata Systems is poised to be the biggest innovation expo for 2013, with four conference tracks for the different digital growth areas for the Philippine economy, plus a track on home and living.
