Business As Usual

Celebrating old friends

BUSINESS CHIC - Johnny Litton - The Philippine Star

Former Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Ambassador to Belgium-Luxembourg Roberto Romulo hosted a birthday celebration with his colleagues in the business community as well as his associates from the diplomatic corps for his dear friend, chairman and CEO of Planters’ Development Bank and former ambassador to the Court of St. James Jesus “Chuching” Tambunting.  It was an outstanding occasion as the group reminisced on their friendships from as far as 50 years ago and now present leaders in their chosen fields of endeavor such as banking and other sectors of the business community.  It was a joyous affair enjoyed by all!  Many more returns, Chuching!

From ‘arena’ to playground

Good news, my dear friends!  An exciting hangout will soon take up space at the Mall of Asia (MOA) complex.  Set to be the next exciting venue for meeting friends before or after a show at the MOA Arena, the new playground SuperStar Sports Grill and Bar will open for lunch, afternoon tea, dinner—offering a superb variety of international cuisine and beverages from around the world. There will be a VIP lounge for business talks and private events, a bar to chill the night away, while tables will be set up outside for those who prefer dining al fresco.  Led by a man who knows his business, Amigo Entertainment Technologies, Inc.’s Wopsy Zamora, the project will be something worth the wait.  Wopsy, famed for his audio, lighting and LED presentations that are considered technical marvels, will serve as SuperStar’s chairman and CEO.  Vice-chairman and president Manny Sy, chief operating officer Sergio Yu, treasurer and chief finance officer Delfin Wenceslao, Jr., vice president for architecture Jose Siao Ling, and vice-president for public relations, Philippine national basketball team head coach Vincent ‘Chot’ Reyes complete the SuperStar board.  MOA denizens will count the days to its opening as SuperStar promises to be the center of it all!

Reginald F. Lewis Foundation celebrates with scholarship grants

Joy and hope filled the Harvard Club in New York City when The Reginald F. Lewis (RFL) Foundation gave college scholarship grants to public school seniors. Scholarships were awarded to the seven winners of the essay writing contest conducted by The Fund for Public Schools. WNET 13 chief executive officer Neal Shapiro and Filipino-born businesswoman and philanthropist Loida Nicolas-Lewis graced the event by delivering an inspirational speech and presenting the WNET Reginald Lewis Fellows respectively. All of these were in celebration of the 20th death anniversary of TLC Beatrice International chief executive officer Reginald F. Lewis. Congratulations to the scholars and thank you to Neil and Loida for their words of wisdom!
