Business As Usual

Palawan steps-up with Robinsons

BUSINESS CHIC - Johnny Litton - The Philippine Star

Home to one of the new seven wonders of nature — the Underground River, Palawan continues to prosper as it becomes one of the top destinations for tourism and business in the country. Just recently, Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC), one of the country’s leading property developers, made its presence known to the residents of Palawan with the opening of Robinsons Place Palawan and gohotels.ph’s newest branch along the National Highway in Puerto Princesa City. The grand opening event was led by JG Summit Holdings, Inc. chairman emeritus John Gokongwei, Jr., JG Summit Holdings Inc.’s chairman and chief executive officer James Go, RLC vice chairman and chief executive officer Lance Gokongwei, RLC president and chief operating officer Frederick Go, RLC senior vice president for operations Lily Ngo-Chua, Robinsons Retail Group president and chief operating officer Robina Gokongwei-Pe, and Puerto Princesa City mayor Edward Hagedorn. Residents of Palawan can now enjoy the excellent shopping haven which boasts a wide selection of local and international boutiques, al fresco and casual dining outlets, specialty stores and three new cinemas plus a 3D theater. Congratulations to RLC for another milestone!

Why not Asia

Asia’s trade prospects and how emerging markets shall shape the region was the topic of a panel discussion during a special Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) general membership meeting held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. The panelists were UBS Investment Bank’s Asian Economic Team executive director and senior economist Edward Teather, International Monetary Fund deputy managing director Naoyuki Shinohara, and Negara Malaysia governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz (who was also the keynote speaker), with UBS managing director and head of Debt Capital Markets Asia Guy Wylie as moderator. The MAP, headed by its president Eduardo Francisco, led the country’s private sector in hosting the 45th annual meeting of Asian Development Bank’s Board of Governors that ensured the event’s success. Congratulations!
