The country’s premiere Catholic university, The Pontifical and Royal University of Santo Tomas (UST), recently kicked-off its year-long commemoration of its 400th founding anniversary with a grand alumni homecoming event. It was an international celebration graced by the presence of Philippine President Noynoy Aquino and was well-attended by UST alumni including business mavens Aficionado and Joel Cruz Signatures president Joel Cruz and general manager Lambert Lopez as well as the International Council of Universities of Saint Thomas Aquinas regents from around the world among many others. Congratulations to UST for producing some of the country’s brightest personalities for 400 years now!

Celebrating with the finest financial executives

One of the country’s premiere auditing firms, Manabat Sanagustin & Co. (MS&C) recently hosted a cocktail party at the KPMG Center in Makati in honor of Department of Finance (DOF) undersecretary John Phillip Sevilla, Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) commissioner Kim Jacinto Henares and Bureau of Customs (BOC) commissioner Angelito Alvarez as well as some of the country’s top business executives. Led by MS&C chairman and chief executive officer Roberto Manabat, the celebration was also the perfect moment for the announcement of MS&C’s new partners: Joan Carino for Advisory Services – Information Risk Management and Maria Myla Maralit for Tax Services while the new principals are Jerome Andrew Garcia for Advisory Services and Manuel Salvador III for Tax Services. Congratulations to the honorees and to the new partners and principals!

A gathering of financial geniuses

The brightest minds from different universities recently gathered to represent their school at the 12th Inter-Collegiate Finance Competition (ICFC) finals held at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in Manila. Led by the Junior Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (JFINEX) chairman Vicente Julian Sarza and Committee founding chairman Grace Palma Tiongco, the tough competition was highlighted by an impressive performance from the students from the University of the Philippines Visayas in Iloilo City who were declared as champions followed by the University of the Philippines Diliman in second place and De La Salle University Manila as third placers. The champion team members each received a full MBA scholarship at the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) for the next five years. Congratulations to this year’s winners! See you next year!

Wilcon Depot conducts tile-cutting demonstration

Continually building big ideas for its valued clients is the country’s premiere construction and home improvement supply company Wilcon Depot as it recently held an easy and eco-friendly tile-cutting techniques demonstration in partnership with Rubi. Led by Wilcon Depot executive vice president and chief operating officer Rosemarie Bosch Ong, together with (from left) Rubi general manager – Asia-Pacific Albert Marino, Wilcon Depot brand manager for Rubi Francis Lazaro and Rubi’s Rafael Rodriguez Martin, the event was well-attended by tile setters, contractors and architects.
