MANILA, Philippines - In the eyes of the local business process outsourcing (BPO) workforce, there is but one IT park that provides them the highest number of career opportunities: Eastwood City Cyberpark.
Located in Libis, Quezon City, Eastwood City Cyberpark registered an employment figure of 16,856 for the whole of 2009, highest among all the registered information technology (IT) parks and buildings nationwide, according to the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (Peza). The total figure was a 22-percent improvement from the employment figures in 2008.
But counting the non-BPO employment figures, such as banks, restaurants, shops and marketing-oriented companies in Eastwood City Cyberpark, the satellite city has provided jobs to more than 30,000 individuals, according to its developer, Megaworld Corp.
Eastwood City Cyberpark also registered improvements in two other Peza 2009 data. Exports of the cyberpark’s outshoring and offshoring (O&O) locators tallied $348.31 million, an increase of 7.8 percent from 2008 figures.
The employees of PEZA-registered companies combined for P6.72 billion in salaries, a surge of 33 percent from the P5.05-billion paid out during the previous year.
Among the top employers in Eastwood City Cyberpark are Citibank, eTelecare Global Solutions Inc., IBM Business Services, Siemens and Dell.
“We are pleased that despite the global economic challenges of 2009, Eastwood City Cyberpark still managed to post increases in the number of employees, exports and salaries. As the economy improves further this year, we expect 2010 to be another banner year for Eastwood City Cyberpark,” Megaworld FVP for Business Develoment Jericho Go stated.
