MANILA, Philippines - United Pulp and Paper Co. (UPPC), a leading industrial paper manufacturer under SCG Paper, has been awarded the Green Choice Seal of Approval for its environmentally-sound manufacturing process and products during the Green Productivity, Green Purchasing Towards Green Philippines (GP3) Conference at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.
The Green Choice Seal, which was given by the National Ecolabelling Program Green Choice Philippines (NELP-GCP), requires brands and companies to submit their products to an extensive two-month environmental assessment. To date, only 13 Philippine-made products have been certified as environmentally safe by the Green Choice Program.
UPPC was recognized for its 100 percent utilization of recycled paper and technologically advanced effluent treatment plant. UPPC shifted from using virgin pulp in its paper products for almost 10 years. The company sources out recycled paper mostly from domestic suppliers and imports some from America, Japan and Singapore.
Wichan Jitpukdee, UPPC vice president for manufacturing said, “UPPC applies stringent measures to assure end-users that its paper products are environmentally safe under SCG Paper’s 3G concepts including Green Process, Green Product and Green Thought. Aside from streamlining operations to minimize the company’s environmental footprint, we are also looking into using more extensive eco-labeling methods to encourage clients to become more environmentally conscious.”
