SCG continues CSR programs as part of Philippines-Thailand relations

MANILA, Philippines - After launching the second year of “SCG Sharing the Dream” scholarship program last June 2009, Thai conglomerate SCG is continuing its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs in the Philippines by helping Filipino public high schools improve their learning facilities through its E-Knowledge and Tele-Education programs.

These programs are part of SCG’s dedication to provide education to the Filipino youth in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Philippines-Thailand diplomatic relations.

For their E-Knowledge program, SCG has installed six computer units with Internet connection at the Calumpit National High School and three computer units at the Iba Este community library. The beneficiaries are all situated in Bulacan, where SCG’s subsidiary, United Pulp and Paper Corporation (UPPC), is located.

Meanwhile, its Tele-Education program includes the improvement of the home economics room of the Iba O Este Elementary School and the installation of a satellite disc by the Knowledge Channel team. It also brought an additional TV unit for the Knowledge Channel’s team session at the San Marcos Elementary School.

Mr. Chartchai Leukulwatanachai, UPPC president and CEO, said SCG envisions the improvement of education in communities where it operates to contribute to the sustainable progress of ASEAN.

“We will continue to organize good educational activities in the Philippines as we would like to be a good organization and take part in supporting the 60th anniversary of the Philippines-Thailand diplomatic relations,” he said. 

SCG also helps construct 50 houses for the homeless in Malolos, Bulacan in collaboration with the Gawad Kalinga.
