Pharex employees help build Habitat for Humanity housing project

-

The management and employees of Pharex Health Corp. took time off their regular weekend break to do volunteer labor for the Habitat for Humanity- St. Hannibal Empowerment Center housing project in Malibay, Pasay City.

Pharex president Tomas Marcelo Agana III personally led the Pharex team as they helped workers in the hauling and laying of bricks and doing foundation work amid the sweltering heat at the site.

“We’ve always considered helping the less-privileged as part of our company’s social responsibilities,’ said Agana. “We’ve been providing affordable, quality generic medicines to help them stay healthy and now that we’re celebrating our 20th anniversary, we took it further by helping build better homes for families who need it most.”

The project seeks to provide decent and affordable housing to families from Malibay’s depressed areas. The first two clusters of two-story houses are already completed and occupied by a combined 170 families and construction is underway for the third, set to benefit another 176 families.

To gain rights to the housing, the beneficiaries will have to do at least 400 hours of “sweat equity” or labor and pay for the 24-square meter unit for a reasonable price at manageable terms.

The project is a shared initiative of the Rogationists of the Heart of Jesus (RCJ), a religious Congregation of priests and brothers founded by Blessed Hannibal Mary Di Francia, and Habitat for Humanity, an international, ecumenical, Christian, non-governmental and non-profit organization devoted to building simple, decent and affordable housing through volunteer labor.

It was a worthwhile activity for Pharex employees, who did their share in building better homes and setting a brighter future for beneficiaries of the Habitat-SHEC housing project.
