Sun Life’s ultimate fighting champions
Any company who has stayed in the market for more than a century is bound to possess a secret. Sun Life Financial-Philippines (SLFP) has been securing the future of Filipinos for 112 years after surviving two world war, two people power revolutions, and several tumultuous local events.
There has to be a secret, and it is not a very well kept one. In fact, it is revealed every October, a celebration that starts and ends with festivity and homage to the long tradition of Sun Life in the country. That secret is called the President’s Month.
Rich in history
The President’s Month is one of the annual sales competitions of SLFP. It begins with a kick-off, where new business managers give their respective pledges, their branch’s target for the end of the month. As its name implies, the achievements made during the President’s Month are all dedicated to the company’s top honcho.
This tradition comes from a long line of predecessors, specifically the Independence Cup established after the declaration of sovereignty in 1946. Eventually, the event came to be known as the President’s Month. It used to be a contest participated in by other Sun Lifers from other Asian countries like

Once again, Sun Lifers have commenced with the President’s Month last October 6 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Reception Hall. With the theme “Ultimate Fighting Championship,” the 2007 President’s Month drew its inspiration from the greatest boxers the world has ever known.
The branch managers of all SLFP branch offices announced their respective pledges during the kick off. These will be the figures that Sun Life agents will try to achieve, and even surpass, at the end of the month. Aside from the pledges, outstanding performers during the August champions were also honored.
“The pledges for this year’s President’s Month are amazing. We are excited with what the outcome will be, of who will bring home the glory. But one thing is for sure, we are all eager and determined to do our best and hopefully get ahead of the competition as the year ends,” affirms Henry Joseph Herrera, SLFP president and chief executive officer.
