Shell leads businesses on csr advocacy

-
For the 5th year, Shell once again took a leading role as a strategic corporate partner of the Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (AFCSR) held on Sept. 25-26, 2006 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Quezon City. During the two-day event attended by more than 500 delegates from 24 countries, Shell showcased its best practices on CSR and joined businesses in promoting new thinking and standards on CSR.

With the theme "Harnessing CSR for Development and Democracy," the conference featured plenary session where Shell companies in the Philippines (SciP) country Chairman Edgar Chua presented the framework of Shell’s CSR approach and various community development programs. In another session dubbed as "Meeting of Minds," Pilipinas Shell Sustainable Development Manager Mylene Santos and Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. Sustainable Development Manager Ma. Divina de Leon addressed a number of delegates on Shell’s social performance as a tool for embedding CSR.

Delegates learned more about Shell’s CSR programs through the interactive exhibit, which showcased both programs of Pilipinas Shell and Malampaya. A visit to Pandacan was similarly arranged for delegates as a new activity for this year’s event, which was participated by international representatives from PT Holcim Indonesia, Save the Children USA, CARE Bangladesh, First Gas Philippines and World Food Program in Hong Kong. The delegates greatly appreciated the visit, which featured briefings on the social programs in Pandacan, a tour of the linear park and community immersion.

Recognized as being the largest and most significant conference on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Asia, the AFCSR is organized by the Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. AIM Center for Corporate Responsibility.
