Double-digit growth in online sales

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Adobe Systems has forecast 12.4 percent of all European online sales will come from mobile devices, a 68-percent year-on-year spike, with tablet shopping rising 60 percent and smartphone shopping climbing 97 percent. Adobe, an American multinational computer software company, said US sales during the period will account for 14.4 percent of all online transactions at a growth of just 40-percent YOY. Online shopping Stateside is set to climb 12 percent on 2012, with Cyber Monday online shopping madness set to rise 15 percent and reach sales of $2.27 billion. Meanwhile, December 9th is expected to be the highest grossing online shopping day in Europe, with sales rising 2.74 times this year’s daily average. The UK is thought to generate 20.4 percent of all online sales from mobile during the period, higher than any other European country, and the projected European and US averages of 12.4 percent and 14.4 percent, respectively. Adobe said that while tablets have certainly stolen the mobile spotlight and often generate three to five times more online sales for retailers than do smartphones, in every European country we analyzed, retail transactions on smartphones are growing faster than retail transactions on tablets.  While this phenomenon is certainly aided by the recent introduction of smartphones with larger screens, it’s a reminder to retailers that a mobile strategy must include smartphones and not just tablets.
