MANILA, Philippines - The country’s largest foreign bank has launched the One-Time personal identification number (PIN) feature in the Citi Mobile banking application, offering its clients greater convenience and peace of mind when making online banking transactions.
The one-time ID is a unique six-digit PIN that serves as a dynamic second-level authentication and allows users to access their account details and complete online transactions on their computers, tablets or mobile phones.
The PIN can be received via SMS or generated on the online security device. This latest option to generate One-Time PIN via Citi Mobile provides clients some additional advantages.
“By turning the mobile phone itself into a two-factor authenticated device, users do not have to carry the online security device wherever they go,†Franchise Francesco Lagutaine, Citi Asia Pacific head of customer, said.
“Using Citi Mobile, clients can also generate offline One-Time PINs without Internet connection or network coverage. Hence, clients traveling overseas do not have to incur any costs to generate One-Time PINs,†Lagutaine added.
Citi Philippines consumer business manager Bea Tan said that Citi Philippines is the first to launch the One-Time PIN via Citi Mobile globally.
“This completes our full suite of One-Time PIN generating solutions including SMS and the hardware tokens. It reaffirms our commitment to deliver a secure, convenient and flexible online banking experience to our clients and to be the leading digital bank,†Tan said.
To get started, clients simply download the Citi Mobile banking app on their Apple or Android devices for free and register their mobile device.
They can then use Citi Mobile to generate the one-time PIN on their mobile devices and use it to authenticate their Citibank online or mobile banking transactions including making payments, ordering a checkbook and opening a time deposit.
With over 1.5 million users in the Asia Pacific region, Citi Mobile is one of the most active and widely used mobile banking platforms in the region. Citi Mobile is widely used for bill payments, fund transfers and rewards points redemption.
